Coastal NOT Beachy

One of the first questions anyone asks (other than 'have you set a date yet'?) after they hear I am engaged is, 'What are your wedding colors?'

That is a good question. Mr Corn and I don't actually have wedding colors that I am aware of; more, our wedding has a defined 'style'. We are going for a rustic (yet elegant) New England coastal feel. This is decidedly NOT the same as a beach themed wedding. Translation: lots of natural coastal elements; sea grasses, hydrangeas, sand, water, etc. If we HAD to pick a color, I guess it would be blue. My favorite blue of course; the blue the water is in New England around 3:00pm on a bright, sunny day. It is a shimmery, deep blue. Believe it or not, I found the exact shade in a paper from Paper Source. I paired the stardream paper with a cream paper that has dark chocolate brown text for the save-the-dates, the invitations, the response cards, the table seat cards and the thank you notes. The invitations also have a natural colored, fibrous paper wrap that is tied with a dark chocolate brown satin ribbon.

The bridesmaids are wearing a medium cornflower blue, bell sleeved, v-neck cashmere sweater that I found at Garnet Hill with a deep blue, satin, A-line skirt to the floor from David's Bridal and they will be carrying white hydrangeas.





The wedding favors are a square glass ornament that I am filling part way with sand and tiny shells and a small square paper insert with our monogram and the date of our wedding on it. They each have a thin, sapphire blue ribbon attached at the top. They will be placed on the tables to add to the centerpieces which are antique ball jars with the metal and glass lids filled with sand, sea grasses, maybe some shells, candles and water. Also on the table will be votive holders filled with sand and tea lights.

I will be honest, there really isn't much out there idea-wise if you are looking for New England coastal elements for your wedding. There is, however, a derth of palm tree, sand dollar, jumping dolphin, grass skirt stuff which is what you are led to if you search for 'coastal themed wedding'. But for all of you gals out there who know the Northeast coast and for whom 'down the shore' is a phrase promising the joys of summer, you can understand why my heart is with the more subtler, natural style that I hopefully have captured for our wedding.
